Inspections Department

The Inspections Department's responsibilities include enforcement of uniform building construction codes and minimum housing standards. The department provides a code enforcement program within the framework of applicable policies, procedures, instructions and state and local laws to protect the health, safety, and general welfare of the citizens within the jurisdictional area of the City of Raleigh. ATTENTION CONTRACTORS! Please be advised that with the sunset of the permit extension act (Senate Bill 831) on Dec 31, 2011 the Department of Inspections will soon begin sending out notifications for permits that have had no activity.

Your help and cooperation is requested to ensure that work is performed in accordance with applicable NC State Building Codes and NC General Statues.

Administration Division

The Inspections Administration Division includes the Director and administrative support staff.

Inspections Construction Division

Construction Division

The Construction Division is responsible for assuring that all residential and commercial construction meets the applicable Building Code requirements and for reviewing construction plans for code compliance. This includes the plans review staff as well as the field inspectors.

Inspections Housing and Environmental Division

Housing and Environmental Division

The Housing and Environmental Division enforces the City's minimum housing and public nuisance codes. This division also manages Neighborhood Preservation which administers the PROP and Rental Dwelling Registration programs.
